| The star attraction will be FR locomotive, Palmerston hauling freight trains over the new extension – the first steam loco on this part of the railway since the 1930s.
Palmerston is in much the condition he was in after overhaul in 1910, and is still coal-fired; the engine is usually treated as a working museum piece rather than a loco for regular use.
Palmerston Locomotive
He is returning to familiar duties as he had been hired for construction work on the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railway in the 1870s, and again on the Welsh Highland Railway in 1922. |
| Of course, there will also be the usual mix of powerful locos and long trains – together with ‘drive a diesel’ with Conwy Castle at Dinas, visits to the Loco shed, stands and Project displays, 16mm Live Steam layout plus more at Dinas.
There will be a connecting Sherpa bus to Porthmadog from Rhyd Ddu, and a shuttle bus between Rhyd Ddu – Pitts Head – Pont Cae'r Gors, particularly for photographers.
